The Belleville washer shape achieves an optimum friction fit with simultaneous mechanical interlock via the helical gearing. Higher pre-tensioning forces can be achieved due to the washer's increased thickness

Notice

It makes sense in many cases – primarily when using short screws and loads which are vertical to the screw axis – to prevent the connection loosening by using lock washers to supplement the pre-tensioning force. For difficult conditions, such as harder surfaces, slotted holes, screws of strength class 10.9 etc., the strengthened VS design is recommended.
